KU Innovation Park Scientists reading data on a screen

Research and life sciences are a priority for Lawrence, and we are focused on strategically developing these rapid-growth, innovation-based industries. A vital part of this ongoing effort is the strength of the University of Kansas as a partner, providing a specialized talent pool, laboratory spaces, and ground-breaking opportunities as exciting new discoveries are made every day.

University of Kansas

The University of Kansas is a top-tier research university with the largest concentration of life science research entities in the state, resulting in over $300 million in external funding.

KUIP Laboratory Space

KU Innovation Park

Adjacent to the campus is the 125,000 square-foot KU Innovation Park, a supportive environment of office and laboratory space to incubate emerging research and life sciences companies and entrepreneurs.

Another new project, also on campus, is The Crossing at KU, a mixed-use live, work, play project with a strategic plan to support the researchers, companies, and entrepreneurs aligned with KU.

Two of the top employers in Lawrence are the University of Kansas and Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Lawrence is also a center for research and biomedical businesses outside of the university with the prospect for growth for existing companies and support for new businesses looking to start up.

Lawrence Memorial Hospital

At Lawrence Memorial Hospital, researchers and physicians work to advance cancer care by partnering with The University of Kansas Cancer Center’s outreach network, Masonic Cancer Alliance, on cancer research and clinical trials. These trials mean that local patients in Lawrence can eliminate time-consuming and stressful travel to access the latest in treatment and care at home.
